Week 3 at Poppy's Place: Greenwood Village, CO CLICK on image to show larger view

The first 2 pieces here are done by "A". She is going blind. She was a pianist who played Carnegie Hall. She is from NYC.Today, here daughter was picking her up, but she paused to do 2 pictures.

A's 2nd piece - a snow scene. A always asks for the first color, saying she is blind, and then seems to know where the colors she needs are, until she is finished.

This 3rd Piece is done by HV who is being honored this Saturday at the Denver City & County Building, for his work - technical drawings and engineering feats in the locomotive industry.

D is new. She is in the late stages of Alzheimer's yet is only in her early 50's. She has a daughter, named "Jennifer" and a son, in the armed forces. She wrote her daughter's name on her second picture.

One of my volunteer's name is Jennifer and this triggered her memory.

Our other Alzheimer's patient, Jo, did quite a bit more work today...but it took a lot of coaxing - she really just wants to sleep.

Mac is still working on his landscape painting from last week. He really wants to learn how to "paint", I think - like with oils or acrylics. He is really pushing the limits of tempera paint. Next week I have promised him to talk specifically about how to mix colors, etc. As we proceed, I will look into finding him finer quality art materials.

Pat needs no encouragement. Her work has a certain style - if you go back through the previous pages, you can see the progression of her work. She said she has been sketching ideas in her room. This is another one who may need supplies.

This is Pat's 2nd piece.

T is progressing as well. Last week she did a beautiful cactus plant blooming in the sunset. This week a bolder plant. I always have to encourage her to finish the white space - she likes to leave white space. Maybe that is her signature. After all, she only wears white...hmmm...Maybe I should give her black paper...and then she can paint in the white...

This is her 2nd piece - a person soluting a flag. She asked me to show her how to make the elbow look like it's soluting - I drew one for her and she copied it much better than my drawing.

This piece was done by one of my volunteers: the mom.

This is my other volunteer's work.

...and her 2nd piece. In this instance, I had her sit at the table with the adults, in hopes that her energy would rub off on them.
