Week 2 at Poppy's Place: Greenwood Village, CO - CLICK on the image to see the larger view...

The first 3 pieces here are done by "A". She is going blind. She was a pianist who played Carnegie Hall. She is from NYC. This week she has improved a lot from last week - the third piece is a glass with roses.

A's first piece today.

A's 2nd piece today.

A's 3rd piece today.

This is done by the 89 year old locomotive engineer. Here he paints Pike's Peak and the Garden of the Gods. As he paints, he tells us about how, at age 18, he and a group of boys climbed Pike's Peak, and they all said, he was born to climb mountains. He is a Denver Native, but he also loves the east - he has been to NY and loves it. He has gone rafting in the east often, he says. As he talks about mountain climbing, a conversation among the residents ensues.

He inspires "M" to talk about how he climbed Long's Peak...it is good to see them talking with one another.

This is "M"'s work. M had a teacher in grade school who told him he could not paint clouds the right shape and so he should never try to do art. I think this piece is outstanding. M is trying to use Tempera to do a plein air painting - and he grows frustrated with the limitations of the materials. I try to explain to him that these materials are better for self-expression, but he keeps at it. It looks like his teacher was wrong. M will finish this piece next week.

T is very beautiful. She was a model in New York in her youth. She does some wonderful work today

This is T's 2nd piece - she started it last week. It is fabulous!

This is T's 1st piece this week.

This guy had said last week that he only paints cars. He was tired today - only did 1.

P was really glad I came TODAY - because she was upset and stressed about something and she doesn't want to talk about it yet, but she knew she can paint about it. She also utilized the music and did a representation of it.

P's 1st piece.

Music: Mozart, P's 2nd piece

P's 3rd piece.

The rest of the work is done by the staff/family who lives at the facility: Here are a couple of them
