Intuitive Painting Class

My class is for everyone (above the age of 10) who want to try something new, are artists who are creatively blocked, or who have never done art before and are curious. It can be a 1-day workshop or a weekend, or a week...I supply the tempera paint and paper and brushes.

We need a room where we can be messy: We use the walls for this class so the walls in the room must be floor to ceiling at least 8’ and there must be at least 4’ width for each student. Tempera paint is washable. We need access to water and a sink. We can use a room with tables as well.

I am teaching the method that I use and have used to create art since 1988. Some people call it “process painting”. I have been able to apply it to writing, video, performance, computer animation, and living, as well as painting. This method not only creates art but it develops trust in the intuition which is an invaluable resource. Of course, to glean the most from this method, one has to practice it, but many students take to it, as I did and make it a part of their lives.

I walk around and coach individually. Almost immediately we deal with the judging mind: “...this is terrible, I can’t do it...” and work through that using various techniques and questions. There are no mistakes. Students are encouraged not to throw away and start over, but to work through their difficulties, incorporating them into something new that they had not planned.

Having more than 1 day allows students to go home and “sleep on it” and come back - very important part of the process when working with the intuition. This can be managed in a 1 day workshop with a break.
